Our Processes

How does HySafe conduct a site assessment?

Often, the first step is for HySafe to assess your job site by looking at the facility’s support structure, work areas, obstructions, hazards and mobility requirements. In some cases, we can offer a remote option using technology to connect our experts virtually. Plus, we have a live onsite option to bring our experts directly to your job site for a comprehensive written analysis. For more information or to schedule, call 800-642-0075 or Request a Site Assessment.

What fall protection training does HySafe provide?

Dedicated HySafe experts provide comprehensive user training whether we are performing a same-day anchor installation on a single roof or installing several custom fall protection systems across multiple locations. Our job isn’t done until your workers understand exactly how to use their new HySafe fall protection system and equipment. Our expert team can provide follow-up training upon request plus we can recommend more advanced fall protection training options.

What is engineered fall protection?

Simply put, engineered fall protection references any fall protection systems that have been validated by a professional engineer. Engineered fall protection systems are OSHA compliant, meeting all applicable standards required by law, and generally also meet the applicable ANSI guidelines. These systems are usually made to order or custom-designed; often “custom fall protection” and “engineered fall protection” are used interchangeably. Custom or engineered fall protection solutions are necessary when typical, off-the-shelf options are not suitable to ensure the exact job site needs for safety, efficiency and compliance.

How do I know if I need an engineered fall protection system?

Imagine you are doing a kitchen renovation. Maybe there are prebuilt cabinets that check all the boxes: fits the standard dimensions for the project, fulfills the homeowner’s artistic vision, meets required codes and falls within budget. But maybe not, in which case, it’s time to look at custom cabinetry to ensure the project needs are met exactly. The same is true with fall protection – when a solution is not readily available, HySafe can design and engineer a custom fall protection system, providing options to meet the exact needs for the workers, the work site and the work itself.

What if I can't find the fall protection solution I need?

If you are still looking for a fall protection solution after a couple phone calls and a few online searches, that is a clear sign you need an engineered or custom fall protection system. Because these systems are custom made, no website can show all the available options. It may even seem that nothing looks like what you think you need – and that is exactly where HySafe shines! Our team is ready to tackle any challenge to ensure every member of your team working at height goes home safely.

What happened to Premier Fall Protection?

HySafe’s dedicated recertification service, Premier Fall Protection, was established as a separate business in 2010 to provide fall protection system and equipment inspections. When HySafe joined the Canopy Brands family in 2024, the business units were once again combined to provide a seamless customer experience. For over a decade, HySafe has provided – and continues to provide – certification and recertification services that maintain the compliance of your fall protection system and ensure the safety of your workers.

Does HySafe have experience in my industry?

Yes! Our team has the expertise to deliver custom fall protection solutions to every industry. Our customer list includes an investigative branch of the federal government, municipalities at state and local levels, a well-known Orlando theme park, one of the largest freight railroad networks in North America, an international fast food restaurant chain and the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, to name a few.

This warranty does not apply to any assembly of component determined by HySafe to have become defective after having arrested a fall or as a result of an accident, alteration, misuse, abuse or servicing with parts not approved by HySafe.

Standards & Compliance

What is HySafe’s compliance notice?

HySafe products are manufactured to comply with applicable OSHA and ANSI standards for fall protection. Any equipment that is subjected to the force of a fall or part of a system subjected to forces of a fall must be immediately removed from service. Please notify HySafe if there is any question as to applicability of this notice. Any component of a personal fall arrest system that is subjected to the forces of a fall must be immediately tagged and removed from service until a competent or qualified person has inspected the equipment and certifies its use once again for fall protection. All personal protective equipment (such as anchor, harness, SRL or lanyard) subjected to the force of a fall is to be permanently removed from service. Some self-retracting lifelines may be serviced and certified for use again only by an authorized HySafe representative. Certification of products or systems by any other party will void HySafe’s warranty and liability.

What are the certification and recertification requirements for fall protection systems?

Both OSHA standards and ANSI standards require a complete inspection after installation for initial certification as well as a comprehensive annual inspection of all components within a fall protection system by a qualified person. This yearly recertification maintains the integrity of the entire system and the safety of workers using the system. HySafe can certify, and recertify, your existing system whether it was installed by HySafe or someone else. Additionally, ANSI and many manufacturers recommend a 5-year engineering design review to evalute job site conditions that may have changed since the original installation, affecting the function of the fall protection system.

HySafe is able to perform the required inspections, maintenance and repairs for your fall protection system to keep you in compliance – and provide all the recordkeeping at your fingertips, free of charge, ready when you need it.

How long can you continue to use fall protection equipment?

HySafe recommends inspection before each use and annual inspection is required by a competent person other than the user for all anchors, harnesses and connectors. If the fall protection equipment passes inspection, it is safe to use. If a product has experienced a fall, OSHA requires that the product must be taken out of service for repair or replacement. Note that in 2012, ANSI/ASSE A10.32 was removed, so fall protection products do not normally incorporate a mandatory expiration date. Always refer to manufacturer guidelines for proper use.

What is the Hierarchy of Controls in Fall Protection?

The Hierarchy of Controls in Fall Protection is the preferred order of control, or mitigation, for fall hazards. As the hierarchy progresses, so does the level of risk.

  • Hazard Elimination: Removal of any risk of fall hazard. Zero risk level.
  • Passive Fall Protection: Placement of physical barriers like guardrails around unprotected edges and covers over open holes.
  • Fall Restraint Systems: Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to limit a worker’s field of movement, preventing a fall.
  • Fall Arrest Systems: Use of PPE to reduce the impact of a fall to within acceptable force and clearance margins and prevent striking a lower level.
  • Administrative Controls: Implementation of workplace practices and procedures which alert a worker to all fall hazards. This is the least preferred method offering no means of physical protection. High risk level.

What is the difference between OSHA standards and ANSI standards?

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is a division of the U.S. Department of Labor charged with setting and enforcing safety regulations in the workplace. OSHA also provides training, outreach, education and assistance to workers in order to increase awareness and understanding of these regulations. OSHA regulations are governing law and therefore mandatory, meaning all workplaces and employers must comply. Those who do not comply can face citations and fines. OSHA regulations are established to ensure consistent, safe working conditions. Due to the lengthy process involved in making updates, they may not be able to always deliver the most up-to- date safety information.

ANSI (American National Standards Institute) is a non-governmental body that promotes voluntary consensus standards (guidelines that are universally accepted). Some of these standards are aimed at improving worker safety on the job, such as the Z359 series for fall protection. ANSI standards are recommended guidelines which represent best practices of industry experts. They are more in-depth than OSHA regulations, generally more current and require revision or reaffirmation every five years. A significant number of ANSI recommendations relate to fall arrest equipment and PPE. There are cases where OSHA does not have published rules for specific issues, deferring to manufacturer guidelines. ANSI standards aim to fill these gaps with easy-to-understand guidelines. ANSI standards are not mandatory and following them is not required by law. While manufacturers and employers can choose to ignore ANSI standards without facing any monetary penalty, doing so could place worker safety in jeopardy.

Even though OSHA and ANSI are separate organizations, the regulations and standards related to safety and health are of key consideration for both. Used together, they can enhance and strengthen the safety of workers. Worksites that truly put safety first are known to actively follow all relevant OSHA regulations and ANSI standards.
